Join the Jikoji Zen Center sangha in witnessing the zen priest ordination of Shuho Mike Newhall’s student, Taizan Gendo (Mark Adams), in the main zendo, followed by a tea and dessert reception in the community room. Called “Shukke Tokudo,” the ordination ceremony is a formal deepening of commitment to a life of service, in dedication to the Jukai precepts and the three treasures (Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha) as embodied in the impossible bodhisattva chant: “Beings are numberless, I vow to free them; delusions are numberless, I vow to end them; dharma gates open endlessly, I vow to enter them; Buddha's way is unattainable, I vow to become it.” All are warmly invited to this beautiful tradition which will begin shortly after lunch on Sunday.
